Citi just gave crypto bulls the sentence they did not want to hear: ETF demand is not automatic.
The bank cut its 12-month Bitcoin target from $112K to $82K and lowered its Ether target from $3,175 to $2,240. The reason was not just price weakness. Citi pointed to fading investor interest, ETF outflows, slow U.S. crypto legislation, and attention shifting toward AI assets.
That is the real punch.
Crypto’s strongest institutional narrative was the ETF pipeline. If that pipe slows, the market needs a new reason to reprice higher.
BTC can still rally. ETH can still recover. Bank forecasts can be wrong. But Citi’s cut forces traders to ask a better question: what is the next buyer?
Retail is cautious. ETF demand is uneven. Treasury companies are under pressure. AI stocks are eating investor attention. Regulation is moving, but slowly.
That does not mean the cycle is over. It means lazy bullishness is weaker now.
The next crypto rally needs proof, not just slogans: stronger ETF inflows, better spot volume, clearer rules, or a real risk-on rotation.
Not Financial Advice. Price targets are opinions, not guarantees.
Is Citi being late and bearish near fear, or is it correctly reading the demand slowdown?
