I’ve been paying closer attention to Bitcoin DeFi lately, and one project made me rethink something simple.

Most BTC holders treat Bitcoin like a store of value… buy, hold, wait.

But what if Bitcoin could become productive capital without leaving the Bitcoin ecosystem?

That’s where Zest Protocol stands out.

Zest Protocol is building a Bitcoin-native lending protocol designed to unlock liquidity for BTC holders. Instead of letting Bitcoin sit idle, users can deposit BTC into lending pools, earn yield, or even borrow against BTC-backed assets.

What caught my attention is the architecture.

Unlike many DeFi protocols that rely on wrapped BTC models, Zest is focused on keeping Bitcoin connected to its native ecosystem while using Stacks smart contracts and BitVM infrastructure for secure collateralized borrowing.

Some interesting protocol signals:

• Built directly for Bitcoin DeFi

• Supports BTC lending + borrowing markets

• Uses isolated risk pools for better capital efficiency

• Soft liquidation design helps reduce bad debt risk

• Protocol has reported 800+ BTC deposited historically

I think Bitcoin DeFi is still in its early infrastructure phase.

And protocols building real utility for BTC liquidity might become much bigger than people expect.
