Global Payments Are Transitioning to Stablecoins MoneyGram, one of the established players in global money transfer, has launched its own stablecoin on the Stellar blockchain. A notable institutional partnership structure emerges at the infrastructure layer: issuance authority is granted to Stripe, licensed under the U.S.’s new stablecoin regulatory framework, the GENIUS Act, while custody is provided through an enterprise wallet infrastructure. This move transforms MoneyGram’s five-year partnership with the Stellar network into a permanent infrastructure foundation. This initiative carries significance beyond a single company’s product launch. While Western Union has announced its own stablecoin on Solana, PayPal and Visa are also integrating stablecoins into their cross-border settlement infrastructures. This synchronized push by traditional payment giants can be seen as evidence that blockchain-based payment rails have moved beyond experimental status to become enterprise-grade infrastructure.
