The Vatican is set to establish guidelines for AI ⛪️ Pope Leo XIV’s first encyclical will be officially released on May 25. Titled *Magnifica Humanitas* (Magnificent Humanity), the encyclical centers on safeguarding human dignity in the age of artificial intelligence. The document was signed on May 15, marking the 135th anniversary of Pope Leo XIII’s 1891 encyclical *Rerum Novarum*. The release ceremony will take place at the Vatican’s Synod Hall, with Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah joining as a guest speaker. This marks the first time in the 2,000-year history of the Catholic Church that a pope has jointly issued a major document with a leading AI laboratory. The Vatican regards artificial intelligence as a new industrial revolution, and this encyclical is seen as the Church’s formal response.
