South Korean investors withdraw from crypto, capital shifts to equities The total crypto assets of South Korean investors have declined by more than 50% over the past year, dropping from $83.3 billion to $41.4 billion, while daily trading volume on major exchanges has fallen from $11.6 billion to $3 billion. The primary reasons are falling crypto prices and a shift in capital toward the stock market. Regulatory pressure has also intensified, as the government prepares to implement new AML regulations starting in August, which will automatically flag as suspicious any crypto transactions exceeding 10 million won (approximately $6,900) involving foreign exchanges or personal wallets. Additionally, a 22% tax on crypto profits is expected to take effect at the beginning of 2027.
