The Bond of Knowing The Holy Zohar teaches that דעת (Da’at – knowledge/connection) is not mere awareness, but the living bond that unites חכמה (Chochmah – wisdom) and בינה (Binah – understanding), known as אבא ואמא (Aba veIma – father and mother), through זעיר אנפין (Zeir Anpin – the emotive configuration). This union is the channel through which Divine flow becomes real within creation. פירוש נסתר / Hidden Meaning The essence of דעת is attachment. While חכמה is the flash of insight and בינה is the expansion of that idea, neither alone produces transformation. Only when דעת binds them does the truth descend into the heart and into action. In the supernal structure, זעיר אנפין stands as the bridge, receiving from Aba veIma and transmitting into מלכות (Malchut – kingship/manifestation). Without דעת, wisdom remains distant and understanding remains theoretical. With דעת, they become alive, forming a unified current that brings Divine light into the world. יישום מודרני / Modern Day Application The modern person often lives with information but without connection. We learn, analyse, and even understand, yet we fail to internalise. True growth comes when knowledge moves from the mind into the heart. When a person studies Torah but does not live it, they lack דעת. When they take even a small teaching and bind themselves to it, allowing it to shape their conduct, they activate דעת. This is the difference between knowing about truth and living in truth. הרהור / Reflection The question is not what you know, but what you are connected to. Consider one teaching you have learned—has it entered your actions? דעת demands commitment. It requires that what is understood becomes who you are. Through this, the fragmentation of life is healed, and unity is restored. משל / Parable A man studied the art of sailing for years. He knew every wind, every rope, and every current. Yet he never left the harbour. One day, a simple sailor tied the ropes, raised the sail, and set out to sea. The scholar had חכמה and בינה, but the sailor had דעת—he connected knowledge to action and therefore moved forward. תפלה / Prayer יהי רצון מלפניך אדני אלקינו ואלקי אבותינו שתזכנו לדעת אמיתי לקשר חכמה ובינה בלבנו ולהורידם למעשה May it be Your will, Adonai our G-D and G-D of our fathers, that You grant us true Da’at, to bind wisdom and understanding within our hearts and bring them into action RAM רם בן זאב עובד השם #zohar
