BREAKING: ⚠️ GameStop has transferred 4,709 out of 4,710 Bitcoin to Coinbase Prime, with full rehypothecation rights. Coinbase is permitted to lend out these coins. I’ve read the entire 10-K filing, and what I found is insane. Ryan Cohen has sold covered calls on Bitcoin with strike prices between $105,000 and $110,000, expiring this week. The premium? According to filing data, approximately $7.14 per coin in notional value—that’s about $33,600 per expiration cycle, on $368 million in pledged collateral. Do the math. You give up nearly your entire Bitcoin stack, cap any upside above $110,000, bear full downside risk—and receive peanuts in premium. But the real issue lies in the fine print: Rehypothecation. Coinbase Credit Inc. is permitted to lend out these 4,709 Bitcoin, use them as its own collateral, or commingle them with other clients’ assets. The coins have disappeared from GameStop’s balance sheet. In their place now stands a “Digital Assets Receivable” of $368.3 million. Real Bitcoin has become a promise of Bitcoin. Does this sound familiar? BlockFi did this. Celsius did this. Voyager did this. “Yield on Bitcoin” was always the selling point—and every time, it ended the same way. The GME community celebrates Cohen as a genius: “He’s lowering our cost basis!” But no one asks what happens if BTC crashes and Coinbase simultaneously faces liquidity issues. Double counterparty risk through a single intermediary. And in the Bitcoin treasury rankings? GameStop has fallen from #21 to #190—because you don’t hold Bitcoin if someone else can lend it out. Saylor buys more every week. Cohen pledges 99.98% of his stack for options premiums. One has conviction. The other has a yield strategy that reeks of 2022. I can’t believe we’re seeing the same mechanics again—four years after the Celsius collapse—this time in a 10-K filing of a publicly traded company. Keep this in mind the next time you read “GameStop is the next Saylor.” Short GME.
