Every major financial institution has decided to use blockchain. That debate is over. The only question left: whose chain, and where does value accrue? — Three archetypes are emerging: 1/ TradFi builds from scratch. @LayerZero_Core: announced this week. DTCC, Citadel Securities, ICE as partners. 2M TPS via heterogeneous ZK architecture. Citadel bought ZRO directly. Launching fall 2026. @CantonNetwork: already live. Goldman Sachs, BNP Paribas, JPMorgan (deploying JPM Coin on it). $280B+ daily tokenized repo volume. 575+ validators. $6T in tokenized assets. Why from scratch? Privacy. Goldman can't let Citadel see its positions. Both chains solve this differently — Canton via a "network of networks" architecture, Zero via ZK proofs — but neither could bolt this onto existing public infrastructure. 2/ Enterprises customize existing rails. @RobinhoodApp Chain: Arbitrum-based L2, testnet this week. ~2,000 tokenized stocks/ETFs already on Arbitrum. Mainnet late 2026. @Optimism Superchain: Coinbase built Base, Kraken building Ink. Rollup-as-a-service inheriting Ethereum security. Different trust model. Retail-adjacent platforms inherit. Pure institutional platforms start fresh. 3/ Vertical specialists. @noble_xyz: stablecoin routing hub for Cosmos. Native USDC. $650M+ issued. @OndoFinance: RWA-specific L1. Compliance at the consensus layer. $1.8B TVL. BlackRock and Morgan Stanley as advisors. @tempo: payments-specific L1. 100K+ TPS, stablecoin-native gas. Design partners: Visa, Deutsche Bank, OpenAI, Shopify. @payy_link: privacy-focused Ethereum L2. Default private ERC-20 transfers. Targeting institutions who won't move capital onchain if every tx is public. Each exists because general-purpose chains weren't enough. That's the point. — Now zoom out. We now have Zero, Canton, Robinhood Chain, Base, Ink, Tempo, Ondo, Payy — all live or launching within 12 months. Each built for a different user, a different compliance regime, a different trust model. Nobody is converging. Everyone is fragmenting. This is the coordination failure hiding in plain sight. Blockchain was supposed to eliminate siloed infrastructure. Instead, the institutional adoption wave is recreating it — just with faster settlement and better branding. — Which means the real question isn't who wins the chain war. It's who connects the fragments. Who bridges between Canton and Zero? Who moves USDC from Tempo to Robinhood Chain? Who settles a tokenized Treasury issued on Ondo but traded on Base? LayerZero connects 165+ chains and built Zero. If Zero succeeds, ZRO governs both the interop protocol and the most institutionally-backed settlement chain. Circle's CCTP routes USDC cross-chain. Noble routes it across Cosmos. Tempo lists LayerZero as an interop partner. The pattern: every new chain launched is another customer for the interop layer. More chains = more fragmentation = more demand for bridges and routers = more value to middleware. The chain wars aren't a winner-take-all race. They're a coordination failure that compounds the value of whoever controls the switches. That's where the margin lives. $ZRO $ARB $OP
