Deutsche Bank is preparing to launch crypto custody services for institutional and corporate clients, while BNY has expanded its regulated digital asset custody platform to selected institutions in the European Union. These are concrete steps toward integrating crypto into established financial infrastructure.

Why does custody matter? Large investors need secure asset storage, operational controls, and regulatory clarity before they can confidently enter a market. Established banks can help address those needs.

My take: Custody is the bridge between crypto ownership and institutional participation. Better infrastructure can reduce practical barriers, but it cannot eliminate market volatility, cybersecurity risks, or regulatory uncertainty.

The next signal to watch is adoption, not announcements alone. Look for actual client onboarding, assets held in custody, and expansion into services such as stablecoins and tokenized assets.
