Starknet considers Ethereum independence

Oct 8, Starknet announced it is considering becoming an independent Layer 1 blockchain by 2027 for quantum resistance. STRK price rose 116.7% over seven days as of Oct 11.

Starknet’s been talking about maybe becoming an L1 so they can go fully quantum resistant by 2027. @Starknet posted about it and $STRK jumped hard this morning. I’m not sure how that works with their current setup but it’s interesting they’re thinking ahead. I still haven’t moved any funds over yet though.

On Oct 8 Starknet said it’s “considering” becoming an L1. 2027 target. No proposal, no vote. STRK jumped about 20% on it, some outlets say more. The rally started six days earlier. Oct 2, Starknet offered to cover bridge fees for the first 100 BTC coming in through strkBTC. Quantum had nothing to do with that leg. Also, frens, the June 30 roadmap StarkWare wrote itself never mentions L1. Bridge messaging and blob data wait on Ethereum’s own upgrade. Ben-Sasson puts Ethereum at end of 2029. For Starknet 2027 stays a target and every protocol change still goes through governance. I hold STRK. Bought it in a basket of coins I publicly called trash, with money I can afford to lose. So no victory lap from me. Price sat near $0.07 on Friday and 127M STRK unlock on Oct 15 (approximate data, not confirmation). If a chain leaves Ethereum to get quantum safe, do you still value it like an Ethereum L2?

$STRK surged threefold in a month and doubled in a week—is this the beginning of a breakout or a new round of locking in losses? StarkWare’s CEO dropped a bombshell: Starknet is considering leaving Ethereum’s security umbrella to launch its own independent L1 blockchain. It aims to achieve full quantum resistance by 2027—two years ahead of Ethereum’s roadmap target of 2029. Frankly, I see this as a false dilemma. Originally, Starknet’s premise was to scale Ethereum while leveraging its security. Now, the justification for going solo is that reliance on Ethereum slows down its own security upgrades. But does gaining full control over upgrades automatically mean greater security? Is it worth abandoning Ethereum’s proven security just to achieve quantum resistance two years earlier? To average users, I see no urgent need for $STRK’s quantum resistance. Previously, $STRK made grand promises—becoming Bitcoin’s execution layer, decentralizing sequencers and proof systems—yet many of these roadmap goals remain unfulfilled. Now it’s considering an L1? Just earlier this year, Starknet was mocked for having only 8 daily active users and 10 daily transactions. Now, suddenly, it’s the talk of the town. The announcement came just days ago, yet $STRK continues to rally. Coincidentally, 127 million $STRK tokens are set to unlock on October 15. While other L1 blockchains are pivoting to find new paths forward, Starknet is doubling down—making me wonder: is this genuine technological breakthrough, or just another round of hype-driven pumping?

The lion does not concern himself with quantum threats. $NEAR is that futuristic protocol. That's it, that's all you need.

Starknet doubles in a week as plan to leave Ethereum sparks $2 billion trading frenzy Starknet (STRK) experienced a sharp rally last week after the project considered transitioning from Ethereum’s Layer 2 network to an independent Layer 1 blockchain, aiming to build a system resistant to quantum computing threats by 2027. On October 8, 2026, Starknet announced it is actively evaluating becoming a standalone Layer 1 blockchain. According to StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson, operating as an independent network would allow the project to proactively implement security upgrades rather than relying on Ethereum’s development roadmap. This news quickly fueled a surge in STRK’s price. According to Decrypt, the token traded around $0.073 on October 9, rising approximately 20% in 24 hours and more than doubling from its ~$0.03 level in April 2026. The primary driver behind the proposed transition is the threat posed by quantum computers, which could break the cryptographic systems securing cryptocurrency wallets. Starknet aims to become one of the first blockchains to achieve comprehensive quantum resistance by 2027—earlier than Ethereum’s target of late 2029 for core infrastructure components. Currently, Starknet operates as a Layer 2, processing transactions off-chain and submitting data or proofs back to Ethereum to leverage its security. If it transitions to Layer 1, Starknet would gain greater direct control over consensus mechanisms and security upgrades but would also assume full responsibility for network security and operations. STRK’s price surge has been accompanied by intense speculation in the derivatives market. Data from CoinGlass, cited by CoinMarketCap, shows STRK’s open interest rose 53% in 24 hours, while futures trading volume was roughly five times higher than spot trading volume—indicating significant leverage is fueling the rally. However, the plan to become a Layer 1 remains under consideration and requires approval through Starknet’s governance process. The goal of achieving quantum resistance by 2027 does not yet mean the entire system has reached that level of protection. Therefore, while the independence plan could open new growth pathways for Starknet, investors should closely monitor technical progress, governance decisions, and cash flow sustainability. The rapid rise in open interest also means STRK’s price could experience sharp volatility if leveraged positions are liquidated.

Starknet ethereum:0xca14007eff0db1f8135f4c25b34de49ab0d42766 moved from $0.04 to $0.12 in about two weeks. And I’m seeing takes like “”they have just 8 user”” “”they failed at building an L2.”” Genuinely speaking, do some of y’all hate money?

32 subnets live from genesis, liquidity and validators locked before block one. That order is rare, most L1s ship first and chase subnets later. Brandon's read on the $300B robotics wave only lands if proof settles on rails like this. @Konnex_world is the infrastructure bet, not the hype bet. Not financial advice. No paid promotion.

A testnet chain ID is usually just a number nobody notices. @QMSNetwork Testnet runs as chain 19480, with a working faucet, RPC, and explorer already wired into standard tooling like Hardhat and wagmi. That sounds mundane until you notice what it enables. Developers aren't waiting for official guides to show up. They're deploying standard EVM contracts with zero code changes, verifying QUBO solution values from blocks, and wrapping QMS into the same token standards Ethereum tooling already expects. The chain is EVM-compatible by design, so none of this required QMS to build new developer tooling from scratch. It just had to not get in the way of the tooling that already exists. A post-quantum chain that developers can plug into with tools they already know removes the usual tradeoff, security research on one side, developer friction on the other.
