RLUSD — A Secret Startup Is Promising Yield Before Showing the Product
A secret XRP Ledger startup is making a surprisingly big promise before we even know its name.
Former Ripple engineer Bias Goose has teased a project built around RLUSD, with a fuller reveal expected in September. The most provocative claim is that the product could offer yields above U.S. Treasuries while avoiding the usual crypto playbook of launching a new token or attracting users with giveaways.
That combination immediately gets my attention — and my skepticism.
If the startup really wants to bring real-world business activity onto XRPL using RLUSD, the interesting question is where that extra yield actually comes from. Higher returns do not appear from nowhere. They usually come with credit risk, liquidity risk, leverage, duration risk or some other trade-off that needs to be understood.
For now, there is more teaser than product.
Still, I like one part of the idea: building around an existing stablecoin instead of inventing another token.
September’s reveal needs to answer one simple question: what economic activity produces the yield?
Everything else is marketing until then.
Public information is still unusually thin here, so I would treat the yield and product claims as teasers rather than established facts.
