This morning, I saw two departure announcements—coincidentally, both individuals are stepping down from their current roles but will continue in advisory capacities. First: Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X Platform, is stepping down as Head of Product for X and transitioning into an advisory role. Second: Sam Blackshear, co-founder and CTO of Mysten Labs, will leave Mysten Labs to join Anthropic, focusing on defensive security research. He will continue serving as an advisor to Mysten and the Sui ecosystem, and will also be involved in the upcoming Move Foundation. Everyone should thank Sam Blackshear for his vision, which helped make Sui the epic phenomenon it is today. No action is needed—just joining DC early qualifies you. Opportunities like this are rare—hopefully our paths cross again on the next project!

Crypto once attracted nearly every top engineer wanting to build a new system. Now, that tide is beginning to shift toward AI. Sam Blackshear, co-founder of Mysten Labs and one of the minds behind Move, has just announced he’s joining Anthropic to work on AI security. Previously: + Blockchain was a new problem to solve. + Smart contract security was severely understaffed. + Layer 1s competed primarily on engineering talent. Today: + AI generates code faster than humans. + Attack capabilities are escalating in tandem. + Security has become a race between models themselves. What’s noteworthy isn’t just that a CTO is leaving a project— It’s where the world’s top engineers are choosing to spend their next few years. Narratives usually follow capital. But talent often leads both.

Some of these former celsius Alex Mashinsky shills are prob the biggest risk to IOND and imho, the biggest reason why I want nothing to do with ionic moving forward. Anyone still supporting Mashinsky, in any manner, should be ignored, disregarded, and absolutely not trusted

This is a great example of the early defensive work that I'm sure will become very standard across the ecosystem and broadly. While AI does exponentially increase attack surfaces, it also exponentially empowers defenders.
