In a bear market, some talk about AI, but it still feels like castles in the air; others discuss RWA, yet it still looks like traditional finance rebranded; some chase memes, whose upside has now become extremely limited.
Most projects have abandoned narratives around real-world blockchain adoption and tangible applications—everyone prefers chasing hype, like floating weeds without roots.
Meanwhile, @iota has been steadily building its sovereign-grade infrastructure, positioning itself as the public blockchain serving a global trade market worth tens of trillions, becoming the backbone of global commerce.
It began by partnering with TradeMark Africa to digitize key trade corridors in Africa, then gained substantive support from the UK government through its TWIN technology, and now is advancing Kenya, Morocco, and Nigeria as the first pilot nations for the ADAPT initiative.
IOTA is walking step by step toward its vision.
📝 First, a brief context: This initiative is launched in collaboration with the AfCFTA Secretariat. AfCFTA can be simply described as an African version—or even an amplified version—of the European Union’s free trade market. It currently connects 54 African nations, covering 1.3–1.4 billion people and generating a combined GDP of $3.4 trillion.
Its core objective is to dismantle long-standing trade barriers between African countries, gradually eliminating tariffs on over 90% of goods, and enabling the free flow of capital, people, and technology across the continent.
ADAPT is the blockchain-based trade infrastructure designed to realize this goal.
Think of it this way: If AfCFTA is a “super high-speed rail” driving African economic integration, then ADAPT is the “new infrastructure project” laying down digital tracks and standardizing protocols across all stations.
🤔 So why these three countries? Above, we noted that AfCFTA includes 54 nations.
Because these three passed an extremely rigorous “four-dimensional assessment”:
1. Political commitment: I interpret this as whether the highest levels of government possess absolute determination to drive trade digitization.
2. Regulatory readiness: Whether appropriate laws and regulations are in place to support this blockchain infrastructure.
3. Digital infrastructure maturity: Whether existing local technology and communication networks can sustain Web3 operations.
4. Private sector engagement: Verified through thorough due diligence to confirm whether local businesses and enterprises are willing to adopt it.
These three nations meet all criteria: Morocco is among Africa’s most digitally advanced and infrastructurally mature countries—a bridge between Europe and Africa. Nigeria is Africa’s largest economy and most populous nation, boasting unmatched economic scale and market dynamism. Kenya is a global hub for mobile payments and one of the highest crypto-adoption markets in the world (I discovered that M-Pesa, which swept across Africa, originated here).
💡 Here’s another critical point to note: All three countries will simultaneously begin testing regulatory frameworks for digital currencies (including stablecoins).
In the Americas, the U.S.—the cradle of crypto innovation—is advancing the GENIUS Act and related crypto licensing. In Asia, Hong Kong just issued its first stablecoin license last month, and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has consistently pushed for a Korean won-backed stablecoin as national strategy. Europe long ago enacted MiCA.
Africa remains the only major untapped market—and it’s essential to keep pace by advancing stablecoin adoption.
The foreseeable future: When global regulatory and technological红利 for compliant stablecoins fully explode, IOTA and ADAPT will stand as Africa’s sole blockchain payment layer already validated through government regulatory sandboxes—integrating “digital identity + cross-border data exchange + payment interoperability.”
First-movers become kings.
🤔 In bull markets, people tell stories; in bear markets, they build infrastructure.
From establishing the digital foundation of AfCFTA to becoming a testing ground for compliant stablecoin regulation, IOTA is constructing an unassailable moat during this market winter—with genuine government backing, stringent implementation standards, and precise positioning in payments.
When the global trade network woven from digital identity, cross-border data, and compliant payments eventually closes its loop, the flywheel effect unleashed by IOTA may finally make the market truly understand:
“What ‘a decade of honing one sword’ means isn’t an endpoint—it’s just the beginning.”
