Coinbase CEO Provides Insider Insight: “They Bought the Dips” As Bitcoin’s drop to $60,000 reignited price debates, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong noted that customers bought during the downturn. Armstrong revealed that retail investors increased their holdings in both Bitcoin and #Ether. At Coinbase, America’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, CEO Brian Armstrong said retail investors demonstrated “strong resolve” during recent price declines and bought at the bottom. “There’s an increase in the number of Bitcoin and Ether units” The CEO stated that retail investors held firm during the downturn and treated it as an opportunity to buy: “The group of retail investors on Coinbase has shown truly strong resolve under these market conditions. According to our data, they bought at the bottom. We’re seeing increases in the number of Bitcoin and Ether units. By not selling, they’ve demonstrated strong conviction. The number of units held as of February is equal to or higher than it was in December…” In other words, although dollar-denominated balances may have declined, Armstrong points out that the actual quantities of #BTC and #ETH have risen—indicating that investors bought the dip. But he sold! While Armstrong praised retail investors for buying the dip, it’s clear he himself made significant sales in recent months. Although not involving Bitcoin or Ether, Armstrong—while serving as CEO—sold $550 million worth of Coinbase stock over the past nine months, revealing he did not maintain a strong stance as prices declined. Shares that surpassed $400 last year and set records closed Friday at $164. U.S. markets will be closed today. Armstrong’s net worth is estimated at $7.5 billion.

Inflation echoes US rapid growth hints at big fiscal stimulus, with tax collections rising faster than labor markets suggest (CryptoBriefing). Gig economy's tax impact reveals hidden strength in consumer spending, supporting stock markets despite inflation fears. This could mean a smoother inflation path than expected, benefiting equities more than bonds. Are we looking at a late 90s-style market rally again? #Crypto #Bitcoin

Morning #Bitcoin check ✅ Let’s examine the current state of #Bitcoin by analyzing trends among retail investors. The first chart shows that retail investors’ net buying over the past 21 days reached approximately $48 billion, placing them at the 99.7th percentile—meaning they’re in the top 0.3% of buying activity. While the S&P 500 remains near all-time highs, capital is flowing into U.S. equities at nearly the largest scale ever recorded. Barclays has noted that retail equity exposure has reached levels not seen since 1997, with household equity allocations now at 45–49%, surpassing the peaks of 1999 and 2007. This vividly illustrates how aggressively retail investors are allocating their assets and taking on risk. History speaks clearly: 1999 → S&P 500 fell 49% 2007 → S&P 500 fell 57% And now, we’re beyond those levels. The “moment” is increasingly likely to arrive—and we’re approaching the most fragile, vulnerable point. So, what about Bitcoin? It’s well known that during equity risk-off episodes, Bitcoin tends to experience short-term downward pressure. On the other hand, ETF flows and options open interest suggest sustained medium- to long-term buying demand. MVRV still leaves room for correction, indicating that excessive euphoria is receding. Taken together, this aligns with my longstanding view: uncertainty will continue to rise, volatility will expand, and market differentiation (selection and separation) will intensify. If the overvalued equity market begins to unravel, a rapid collapse could follow. Simultaneously, Bitcoin may face further downside pressure—but it may also be re-evaluated as a store of value and a hedge against systemic risk. As Ray Dalio has warned, now is precisely the time to secure buying power, diversify risk (cash, gold, BTC), and implement hedging strategies. The data suggests we’re in the “late stage of bullishness”—but not yet the “end.” Still, we shouldn’t assume history will repeat exactly. Timing a bottom requires patience. I’m striving to remain detached from noise and emotional reactions, maintaining a broader, more objective perspective. Hopefully, you can sense why survival matters most. February 16 – February 20 Macro Highlights: Inflation and GDP—Can They Continue to Fuel Rate Cut Expectations? The second round of U.S.-Iran negotiations is a potential risk point! China’s market holiday may further reduce liquidity during Asian trading hours! This past Monday coincided with Chinese New Year’s Eve and U.S. Presidents’ Day, resulting in thin trading volumes and low liquidity across Asia and the U.S. Key macro events this week are concentrated from Tuesday onward and on Friday. 1. On Tuesday, the U.S. and Iran meet in Switzerland for their second round of negotiations. Ahead of the talks, both sides are preparing their negotiating leverage through military exercises, carrier deployments, and strategic international messaging. The critical focus is on the outcome of Tuesday’s talks: if progress is made, it would be market-positive. However, a comprehensive resolution in one session appears unlikely. Be alert to the possibility that, should negotiations collapse, the U.S. might signal Israel to launch direct strikes on Iran, while its three aircraft carriers could coordinate military action. Additionally, watch for whether Iran’s navy will fully blockade the Strait of Hormuz. In the worst-case scenario of military conflict, global energy prices could spike sharply. With risk and safe-haven markets already operating under low liquidity, these developments demand heightened caution. 2. On Friday, the December PCE price index and the initial Q4 GDP data will be released simultaneously—both must be analyzed together. Current expectations: December PCE is forecast to rise slightly above the prior reading, while Q4 GDP is expected to show a clear decline versus prior levels. Taken together, this data suggests slowing U.S. economic growth alongside persistent inflation that has not yet fully eased. While this supports a modest upward revision in rate cut expectations, it is unlikely to trigger a strong or rapid shift toward aggressive rate cut pricing. Personally, I expect at most a further increase in the probability of a June rate cut. Currently, the probability of a June rate cut stands at 50.8%, placing it in a period of uncertainty. A breach above 60% signals growing optimism; above 70% indicates stronger market confidence; above 80% implies markets are beginning to price in a June cut; and above 90% means rate cut expectations are effectively locked in. Therefore, if Friday’s data lifts the June rate cut probability to 60% or even 70%, it would deliver a significant boost to risk assets. Additionally, if Trump seeks stronger economic data more conducive to rate cuts, Q4 GDP would ideally remain near 4%, while PCE should fall below 2.8%—though this assumes fully manipulated data, which is highly unlikely. 3. All trading days this week fall within China’s Spring Festival holiday period. The Chinese stock market remains closed, while Hong Kong markets reopen on Friday—meaning half of Asia’s financial markets are effectively shut. China’s market closure will further reduce liquidity during Asian trading hours. For cryptocurrency markets, this may suppress trading volume for #Bitcoin during Asian session hours. Weekly Summary: During China’s Spring Festival holiday, Asian session momentum for crypto markets remains weak. Whether U.S. session activity can provide stronger upward momentum for BTC remains uncertain—hope rests primarily on Friday’s data and whether it can further increase rate cut probabilities. For Asian equity markets, the week-long holiday may lead to delayed negative sentiment, with potential positive effects concentrated next week—monitor accordingly.
