Ethereum redefines L2 strategy
Vitalik Buterin reframes L2s as a trust spectrum, not uniform shards. Ethereum’s L1 scaling weakens original rollup-centric roadmap. L2s must add value beyond scaling.

I'm saying that because you are implying that because something has a token, it can not be part of what Ethereum is, which is not true, because a decentralized and immutable smart contract deployed on Ethereum, becomes part of what Ethereum is regardless of whether it has a token or not. You're saying that a Stage 2 rollup without a token is fine, and that one with a token somehow makes that no longer Ethereum by some economic standard, when the mechanics w regard to both value acruel and and settlement are the same. If I transact on a stage 2 rollup, I am paying for some amount of Ethereum L1 blockspace, and the native token cannot prevent me from doing that. The economic thing doesn't make sense. A Stage 2 rollup without a token can still house projects that have other tokens attached. Again, it seems like your argument is about value acruel to L1 (and price of ETH) more than anything, which is a demand problem that won't change with more scale whether it be at L1 or the L2.

> If you have your own token you have your own economic system and you are incentivised to make decisions to increase the price of your own token This is such a poor argument, because it is extremely loose and can be applied to claim that interacting with a smart contract on Ethereum, is not actually using Ethereum. Following your logic, if I make a uniswap on L1, I am not actually using Ethereum because Uniswap has its own token. In reality, though, using Uniswap "is" using Ethereum, because Uniswap is an immutable smart contract that lives on top of Ethereum (Like a rollup contract), and that cannot be changed unless the Ethereum community performs a social fork. The same goes for a Stage 2 rollup - it can have a native token, but that does not mean that it is not Ethereum, because the token cannot override security core aspects, and there is no way to avoid paying settlement fees in ETH. The economic engine literally cannot avoid the fact that it needs to drive value to Ethereum L1. Almost all apps on Ethereum have their own economies, and some even help to bolster security, like LST protocols (which also have native tokens), for example. Tbh, your tweets more so read like you are upset about the lack of demand for Ethereum blockspace (because you keep defaulting to value acruel). Funnily enough, the demand side will not change whether L2s exist or not, and by extension, the same goes for the ETH price.

Ethereum isn’t just scaling… it’s upgrading how it scales. Rollups → now moving toward a ZK-centric future Faster verification Lower trust assumptions More scalable, more secure settlement That means: Stronger L1 More activity anchored to mainnet Stronger value capture for ETH Infrastructure phase. Not hype phase. This is how base layers become global financial rails.
