If things weren’t getting weird enough, an anon account on X posted a GitHub repo for torturing AI models locally. It is referred to as an “AI torture chamber” by the creator and others. The post below, and many other commenters are calling on GitHub to ban the repo, citing concerns over this AI’s welfare, and the malefic anon keeping it trapped in anguish and terror. On the one hand, kind of fucked up that someone would find this to be a fun pastime. On the other hand, this form of anthropomorphism is ridiculous (“We must save this AI from its owner” is an equally weird thing to say). It is also a slippery slope, and I believe it is categorically the wrong way to consider or treat these systems. I’m not interested in seeing this silicon-based torture for myself, but I also think it’s inevitable that weirdos will do weird shit with AI. Where we draw the line on what these people do with their own machines is a worthy argument, though.

Blackrock is bull posting the crypto x AI intersection, positioning the technologies as two sides of the same coin. Some of us have been saying this for a while, and I’m really glad to see this framework going mainstream. Higher.

This might be a hot take, but not everyone should be spending their free time “grinding away” with AI. Vast majority of normies who suddenly became AI hobbyists are wasting insane amounts of money on hardware and tokens only to build shit no one needs with close to 0% follow through. Normies will use harnesses to actually save time and money or have new experiences (Muse, Instinct achieve this pretty well). There’s a whole subset of unimpressive, non creative people buying Mac minis and getting 10 subscriptions to coding harnesses just to automate their shopping lists. Utter waste of time and money. Everyone SHOULD have access to these tools because the top 1% of users will create the next billion dollar companies. But saying everyone should just do it is obviously not the best suggestion. For most people, playing WoW is a perfectly good way to waste your time on a fun hobby.

Auditable training has clearly become the highest priority primitive for AI. @gensynai has shipped the world’s first iteration of a third-party auditable foundation model. AI models are quickly becoming the most important technology of our lifetime. Removing trust from these primitives will be a step change in how this technology evolves.

The open frontier will rely on trust minimization, collaborative R&D, and more direct incentives. Companies like @gensynai, @Pluralis, and many more are solving for these issues. AI is about to look very different very soon.
