Google Is Building Crypto Security for Banks. Why Now? 76% of $BTC crypto losses from hacks in H1 2026 came from infrastructure and operational compromises, including stolen private keys and seed phrases. Now Google is preparing a dedicated system for exactly this problem. Google Multi-Party Compute (MPC) splits control of a wallet key across several separate environments. For example, one part could stay with Google Cloud, another on a bank's own hardware, and another with a different cloud provider. Before a transaction is signed, institutions can also set rules around: - transaction limits - approved destination wallets - how many people or systems must approve a transfer The full private key is never stored in one place, so compromising one machine shouldn't be enough to move the assets. Alphabet is already using the technology to secure its own assets on $ETH and Solana, while a commercial launch is planned for early 2027. Google also says the architecture could later support post-quantum cryptography, although today it is focused on much more immediate problems: stolen credentials & unauthorized transactions.
