Imagine having to wait for an entire blockchain to upgrade just because you want to change how your wallet is secured
Sounds a little ridiculous, right?
@Starknet is built to avoid exactly that problem
think about your phone you can change your password or switch authentication methods without waiting for everyone else on the same network to do the same starknets accounts work the same way
Every account on Starknet is a smart contract, so the rules for validating transactions live inside the account itself
that means an account can switch to a new signature method even a post-quantum one without needing a network-wide upgrade you keep the same address, and your assets stay exactly where they are
this isnt just theoretical starknets Quantum Hub specifically checks whether existing accounts can change their signing scheme without a protocol upgrade, and early post-quantum accounts have already been demonstrated on mainnet
Of course, this doesnt mean every wallet is quantum resistant today or that the whole network is fully protected
Existing accounts dont upgrade automatically, and wallets still need to support the changes but it does give users a practical way to adapt when cryptographic standards change, instead of waiting for the entire ecosystem to move together
As an L2, some parts of Starknets security still depend on Ethereums timeline thats one reason the project is exploring becoming its own L1 so it can control the pace of its core security upgrades a recent community poll showed strong support for researching this path
Security isnt only about how strong a chain is today its also about how quickly it can adapt when new threats appear
