An operator chore nobody sees: KES keys expire after a set period, and renewing them means signing a new operational certificate with the cold key, which lives offline. Miss the deadline and the block producer can't mint at all. Calendar reminders are part of the job.

Every pool charges a fixed fee per epoch, plus a percentage margin. The fixed part hurts more on small stakes. On a tiny delegation, a flat fee can eat a big slice of that epoch's reward. Worth checking both numbers, not just the margin.

The mempool is your node's waiting room for transactions it has heard about but that aren't in a block yet. It checks each one first, then holds it. When a pool wins a slot, it grabs from this pile to fill the block. Invalid transactions never get that far.

Bitcoin's 51% attack means renting or buying most of the world's mining hardware. On Cardano it means acquiring most of the staked ADA, which pushes the price up as you buy and wrecks the value of what you just bought. Cheating gets expensive in both, in different ways.

Pool pledge is the operator's own ADA locked behind their pool. In the reward formula it gives an almost negligible bonus (aka does nothing). A pool with modest pledge earns just as well. Pledge also doesn't say anything about quality.

Some pools exist for a cause, not just rewards: they donate part of their fees to charity, run education, or build free tools. Honest deal: the operator says what they do with the fees, and you check they actually do it. Worth a look at their site before delegating. #Cardano #A4G
