80,000 stolen BTC. One ethical question. Mark Karpelès on his proposal to return the Mt. Gox hack coins to creditors: "Someone's bag or wallet flew and just arrived inside your home. Do you return it or do you tell people no, it's in my home? No, it's mine. Nobody touch it." He puts the odds near zero. He filed it anyway. @MagicalTux in the full episode. S17 E10

More participants can make a trusted setup more secure, especially when they participate in different ways. Peter Todd also points out that if everyone runs the same software, a problem in that shared software is still a common point of failure.

Should anyone unmask Satoshi? Mark Karpelès says no: "You will want to respect Satoshi's will to remain anonymous because there's nothing good to be gained from unmasking him. The myth is always better than whatever is behind it." Let the legend stay a legend. @MagicalTux in the full episode. S17 E10

A new episode is here! The guest is @nuttycom from @zodl_app, discussing Zcash Development and Why Ossification is Death! Some of the highlights of the episode. Zcash Upgrades🎆 Zcash shipped three upgrades this year: a critical bug fix, a formally verified new shielded pool, and NU7, which cuts block time from 75 to 25 seconds. Kris expects that pace to continue, with Tachyon still to come. Hard Forks🍴 Regular forks let Zcash make clean engineering choices instead of shoehorning changes in. Kris rejects the idea that they're centralizing, because anyone can refuse to upgrade, every upgrade so far has had full consensus, and disputes are settled before any code ships. Ossification is death☠️ Asking when Zcash will be done is like asking when Amazon will be done, because "software is only complete if nobody's using it." He sees Bitcoin's refusal to change as its biggest risk This is the tip of the iceberg on what is an in depth discussion on all the topics that we know you would want to hear. https://t.co/CxUJgPzyL4 zcash:native

You can't stop big money from buying miners. You can change who controls them. Ryan Condron has been mining since 2012. In 2017 he wrote a paper on decentralizing control, not just spreading machines around the map. "The whole vision being we decouple the control from the ownership of the device." That idea became Lumerin, a marketplace for hashrate. @ryankcondron of @HelloLumerin in the full episode. S15 E08

On the Bitcoin Whitepaper's 18th birthday, another excerpt. Privacy "The traditional banking model achieves a level of privacy by limiting access to information to the parties involved and the trusted third party. The necessity to announce all transactions publicly precludes this method, but privacy can still be maintained by breaking the flow of information in another place: by keeping public keys anonymous." -Satoshi Nakamoto 2008 Privacy was in the design from day one. Satoshi even advised a new key pair for every transaction. Protect it, or lose it. https://t.co/Cv7QUkMEYY
