You can't audit your way out of a phished employee. Some of the biggest losses started with a person, not a contract: a tricked signer, a compromised laptop, a fake recruiter. Harden the code. Then harden the people.

MiCA made security an obligation, not a nice-to-have. Serving EU users now means documented, ongoing risk management, not a one-time audit in a drawer. Getting ahead of it is cheaper than explaining to a regulator why you didn't.

Upgradeable contracts trade one risk for another. The upgrade key becomes the most dangerous thing you own. Compromise it and an attacker doesn't need a bug, they replace your logic. Timelock it. Multisig it. Review the proxy, not just the implementation.

Your token holders can be an attack surface. Governance attacks don't break code, they borrow votes. Enough voting power + a low quorum + a short timelock = a malicious proposal that drains the treasury. Real quorum. Real timelock. Watch the proposals.

The gap between shipping product and defending it is the whole job. The boring stuff gets you: the key that can do everything, the signer who reuses passwords, the feed that looks fine until it isn't.

Bridges concentrate risk like nothing else. Two trust promises: the deposit is real, the withdrawal is authorised. Break either and you mint value from nothing. Crossing chains? The verification logic on both sides needs senior eyes.

Audited is not the same as safe. A review is a snapshot of one commit. Most 2026 losses come after: a phished signer, a compromised key, code shipped post-audit. Harden it, then monitor it.

Your multisig might be theatre. 2-of-5 with the timelock off is an instant drain with extra steps. Fixes that cost nothing: isolate your signers, turn the timelock on, give one role the power to freeze.

What a real audit gets you: A named senior team reading your code line by line. No junior queue. Every finding with a fix. Reports public on GitHub. 480+ audits, zero exploits on secured code. Security isn't a PDF.
