International Bitcoiners, Australia needs your help, your support and your eyeballs. 👀
@francispouliot_ is fighting DAC8 in France’s highest court because centralised digital asset databases put holders at risk of kidnapping.
Australia’s version may be even worse:
1. Every transaction through an Australian digital asset platform is to be reported quarterly, tied to your name and address, including moves to your own wallet (which is not a taxable event). That’s more than banks report to the Australian Taxation Office.
2. An undefined “transaction ID” that could expose your wallets and activity, forever. It’s not in the bill at all. It appears only in the explanatory notes, undefined, leaving you to guess what it means.
3. A blank cheque: the details are set later by regulation, with no vote in Parliament to approve them. Meaning any future framework, change or addition can be made with the least democratic scrutiny possible.
Rushed through in 13 days, against Treasury’s average of 27.
