XAUT/USD: $4,680 Is Still the Gatekeeper
XAUT is still bullish on the daily structure — but the latest candles are telling me to slow down.
Price pushed from the $4,311 area to $4,679.8 in a powerful expansion, then immediately met supply near the highs. We’re now around $4,596, with several candles clustering below that peak.
The key detail: the breakout hasn't failed yet, but it hasn't been confirmed either.
The level I’m watching: $4,495–$4,520
This is the first meaningful support beneath the current consolidation.
It sits just above the previous breakout area and roughly marks the base of the latest vertical expansion.
If XAUT pulls back into that zone and buyers defend it, the structure remains constructive.
If it loses that zone decisively, the next major structural level is around $4,311.
Above us, the obvious liquidity sits at:
$4,679.8
That high is now the battlefield.
A daily close above it — followed by a successful retest — would be the confirmation I want for another expansion.
Potential upside zones after confirmation:
$4,750 → $4,850 → $5,000
What price is telling me right now
This is not a good place to chase.
The market has already made a huge move, and we're sitting between support and resistance.
The current daily candle is also still forming, so I wouldn't treat the present red/green sequence as a confirmed reversal.
There is a second reason for caution: the broader gold market is currently balancing two opposing forces. Gold remains supported by fiscal/debasement and safe-haven demand, but elevated inflation has increased expectations for tighter Fed policy. Traders are also waiting for Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole comments.
That combination can produce exactly the kind of volatility we're seeing around $4,600–$4,700.
The cleaner hypothetical setup
Rather than buying at $4,596, the more interesting educational scenario would be a controlled pullback toward $4,500–$4,520 followed by a clear bullish reaction.
Example structure:
Entry: $4,510
Invalidation: $4,450
Target 1: $4,680 → ~2.8R
Target 2: $4,750 → ~4.0R
Target 3: $4,850 → ~5.7R
These are chart-based scenarios, not a recommendation to trade, and actual execution can differ substantially.
The bearish signal
The first warning is a daily close below $4,495.
The bigger structural failure is a loss of $4,311.
If $4,495 breaks and then turns into resistance, I would stop treating the current consolidation as bullish continuation and start looking for a deeper retracement.
My verdict: WAIT
I wouldn't short simply because $4,680 rejected.
The daily trend is still clearly constructive.
But I also wouldn't chase a market sitting underneath a major high after such a rapid expansion.
For me, the two meaningful confirmations are:
Bullish: $4,680 breaks and holds on a retest.
Pullback bullish: $4,495–$4,520 holds and produces a higher low.
Bearish: $4,495 fails, then $4,311 becomes vulnerable.
The interesting part is that gold is still fundamentally supported, while the Fed/inflation backdrop is simultaneously capable of creating sharp pullbacks.
So the next move doesn't need to be guessed.
Let the market prove it.
Will XAUT turn $4,680 into support and start the run toward $5,000 — or will $4,495 finally expose how much of this rally was momentum rather than durable demand?
