Crypto airdrops are often described as “free money,” but that misses the bigger picture.
An airdrop is really a Web3 growth strategy. Projects distribute tokens to spread ownership, attract attention and reward the people who helped an ecosystem grow. Some crypto airdrops target existing holders, while others recognize contributors, early supporters or users who interacted with a protocol before its token launch.
A successful airdrop can turn users into long-term community members. A poorly designed one may attract short-term speculation, create heavy selling pressure and dilute the token’s value.
There is also a security problem: fake airdrop campaigns often copy official branding to promote phishing links or malicious wallet approvals. No legitimate crypto project needs a user’s seed phrase or private key.
The real question isn’t simply “How much is the airdrop worth?” It’s whether the token distribution creates genuine participation—or just temporary attention.
