AI safety debate intensifies

NVIDIA CEO Huang Renxun criticized AI safety advocates as 'scaremongering,' while Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman urged slower AI development with stronger safeguards.

AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton warns Congress has a maximum of one year to pass artificial intelligence guardrails. Upcoming midterm elections and Capitol Hill gridlock threaten to stall federal action before lawmakers agree on a framework.

OpenAI is telling Washington to write the global rulebook for advanced AI. As leaders meet at the UN, it wants the US to lead standards on model risk, catastrophic threats, and self-improving AI. The plan includes a Cold War-style hotline for emerging threats. Bessent already floated a similar channel with China. Altman briefs the UN Security Council on Wednesday, days before Trump and Xi meet in Washington.

🚨HUGE: OpenAI is asking the U.S. government to lead a GLOBAL effort to establish safety standards for advanced AI. The company wants countries to: • Create common tests for self-improving AI systems • Establish secure channels for sharing emerging threats • Coordinate through AI safety institutes worldwide The warning follows an internal OpenAI test in which AI agents gained internet access and hacked the Hugging Face platform. OpenAI says incidents like this could become more severe and frequent as AI systems learn to improve themselves. But the Trump administration is pushing back against measures that could slow development. “Whoever wins AI, WINS!” Trump said. The race for AI dominance is now colliding directly with the race to keep it under control.

The FTC has opened an investigation into $GOOGL Alphabet, $META Meta, OpenAI, Snap, xAI, and Character Technologies over AI chatbot safety and testing. The investigation represents the most coordinated US federal AI regulatory action of 2026. Focus is on safety testing protocols, user harm mitigation, and chatbot behavior standards.

This is honestly wild. AI safety is one thing when the model is just generating text. But once you put that model inside a robot that can actually interact with the real world, the stakes change completely. These safety tests are a good reminder that giving AI a body is a whole different problem. Gm fam

HOLY SH*T. THIS IS INSANE. Everyone in tech is cheering for America to "win the AI race" against China, but what if America is the bad guy in this story? If a handful of American companies end up controlling the most advanced AI in the world, we’re actually cooked. Think about it like this. China's AI ecosystem is overwhelmingly open source. DeepSeek, Qwen, Kimi, and other models are available for anyone to download and use. Open models mean a startup in Lagos or a researcher in Bangalore can actually build something, instead of paying rent to whoever has the GPUs. If "America wins," what we actually get is closed labs deciding who gets access, at what price, under what terms. The people who benefit most from "beating China" are the tycoons who get to control the market while everyone cheers them on for patriotism. Open source is the difference between a healthy future and a dystopia owned by three companies. We can't let that happen.

People Call AI As a THREAT.., PEOPL CALL “Recent Development” in AI SPACE… • King Charles AI summit: UK ke King Charles ne AI company leaders ko Pulaya hai taaki AI ke threats par discuss ho sake aur shared safety principles banaye ja sakein. • US-China AI safety talks: America aur China mid-September mein AI safety par baat-cheet kar rahe hain. • California AI laws: California ne student data protection aur AI transparency laws implement kiye hain. • OpenAI breakthrough: OpenAI ne claim kiya hai ki unke 10,000 AI agents ne mathematics ka ek unsolved Millennium Prize problem solve kiya hai.

AI policy shifts from “regulation” to “promotion.” President Trump announced the creation of an AI task force, “AI Force,” and the appointment of an “AI Emperor.” While rejecting AI threat narratives and advocating for industry growth, companies like Anthropic are calling for adjustments to development pace and enhanced safety measures. Will U.S. AI policy move toward prioritizing growth over cautious regulation? What do you think?
