Ethereum post-quantum roadmap

At Devcon 8, Ethereum researcher Justin Drake set a new goal to complete post-quantum and post-AI transition by Dec 2028, one year ahead of the previous target. Developers need to complete three more upgrades within 24 months.

Ethereum: native will become faster. However, the ETH staking yield may also change. Day 2 of Devcon 8 focuses on topics particularly relevant to ETH investors. Key developments and discussions: 🔹 Glamsterdam Upgrade: Ethereum plans to include higher gas limits, adjustments to fee calculation, and larger smart contracts. The mainnet launch date has not yet been set. 🔹 Fast Finality: The time for transaction finality is expected to decrease from minutes to seconds in the long term. 🔹 EIP-8363: A potential reform of ETH issuance is under heated debate. Lower net emission could limit supply but may also reduce staking yields. 🔹 Quantum Security: Further details on Ethereum’s transition to quantum-resistant cryptography. 🔹 Roadmap: How Ethereum plans to improve scalability without compromising security or decentralization. Important: Day 2 is still ongoing. Several of these points are discussions and planned upgrades—not final decisions. My assessment: Technically, Ethereum could become significantly more powerful. But the critical question remains: Will ETH as an investment benefit sufficiently from the network’s growth? #Ethereum #ETH #Devcon

EXCLUSIVE | DEVCON 8, MUMBAI 🇮🇳 @ethereumfndn Researcher Justin Drake (@drakefjustin) predicts $ETH and $BTC could take different approaches to quantum-vulnerable funds. He believes less than 1% of ETH could be exposed and lost, making a coin freeze unnecessary for Ethereum. #Devcon8 @EFDevcon

Ethereum: Native privacy is already planned for 2028—and almost no one is talking about it. Day 1 of Devcon 8 in Mumbai revealed what Ethereum is truly working on: 🔹 Vitalik Buterin: Privacy, security, and decentralized systems are becoming increasingly critical in the AI era. 🔹 Kohaku: Private ETH transactions will soon be natively available in wallets—without complex add-on applications. 🔹 Quantum Security: Justin Drake aims to transition to a fully quantum-resistant and AI-robust infrastructure by the end of 2028—an ambitious goal, not a confirmed deadline. 🔹 Faster Transactions: New consensus designs aim to reduce finality from minutes to seconds in the long term. 🔹 AI & Blockchain: How can AI agents be integrated without requiring blind trust in their developers? My takeaway: Ethereum is focused not on short-term hype, but on building the infrastructure for the coming decades. But is technological progress enough to sustainably increase ETH’s value? #Ethereum #ETH #Devcon

Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake said Bitcoin may eventually freeze lost coins, including Satoshi’s, to protect them from a future quantum attack. He estimates that 10% to 15% of all bitcoin is lost, compared with less than 1% of ether that would face the same risk. Drake expects Bitcoin to intervene and freeze those coins, while Ethereum takes a more hands-off approach.

EXCLUSIVE | DEVCON 8, MUMBAI 🇮🇳 “Public key” doesn't always mean it should be public. Ethereum researcher Justin Drake (@drakefjustin) explains how a potential quantum or AI attacker could use an exposed public key to recover its private key. EXCLUSIVE | DEVCON 8, MUMBAI 🇮🇳 10 million wallets. 10,000 validators. Around 10 major rollups. Ethereum researcher Justin Drake (@drakefjustin) explains how Ethereum is prioritising its post-quantum upgrade across three layers: • Execution layer • Consensus layer • Data layer The Crypto Times’ Founder & CEO, Hardik Katariya (@0xhardik), brings you this conversation. #Devcon8 @EFDevcon @ethereum @ethereumfndn

EXCLUSIVE | DEVCON 8, MUMBAI 🇮🇳 Ethereum’s next major upgrade could combine its post-quantum transition with what Justin Drake calls “Proof of Stake 2.0.” Ethereum researcher Justin Drake (@drakefjustin) explains how decoupled consensus would redesign the network’s fork-choice rule and finality gadget. The current plan hopes to bundle both invasive upgrades into a single fork instead of two separate ones. The goal? A major change behind the scenes, with minimal disruption for users and validators.
