🟡 CoinNewsDetroit | February 2026 ⸻ Today’s Stories: 1️⃣ Arizona moves toward crypto-friendly tax policy: Lawmakers in Arizona took a step toward making the state more crypto-friendly after the Senate Finance Committee voted to exempt cryptocurrency from property taxation. If finalized, the change could mean: •crypto holdings wouldn’t be taxed like physical property •clearer rules for residents and businesses •another signal that states are competing to attract digital asset innovation Arizona has repeatedly positioned itself as a testing ground for forward-leaning crypto legislation. 2️⃣ BitMEX founder warns yen turmoil could boost Bitcoin: Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, suggested Japan’s ongoing yen instability could trigger increased demand for Bitcoin. When fiat currencies weaken: •capital seeks protection •capital controls become a concern •alternative stores of value gain attention Bitcoin often benefits during moments of currency stress and monetary uncertainty. ⸻ Why this matters: •States are quietly shaping the regulatory landscape from the ground up. •Currency instability abroad can drive global demand, not just local adoption. •Crypto growth rarely comes from one catalyst — it emerges from policy + pressure + protection needs. #CoinNewsDetroit #Bitcoin #CryptoPolicy #Arizona #Yen #Macro #CryptoNews #BTC . 👓🍷

The anger's earned but "be your own bank" isn't a policy position ... more like a bumper sticker. And it lets banks off the hook by making this sound like a culture war instead of what it actually is - an antitrust problem. 53 banking associations backed the CLARITY Act. The same bill that bans yield on stablecoins. They didn't even try to hide the math: if depositors can earn 3-5% on stables instead of 0.01% in savings accounts, trillions move. So they're asking Congress to make the competition illegal and calling it consumer protection. That's a lobbying disclosure you can read. Big banks don't care about community banks either - they're using them as a sympathetic shield. "Protect small banks" polls better than "protect JPMorgan's deposit base." Where I'd push back though: DeFi doesn't win by telling people to go bankless. It wins by offering products so obviously better that people use them without caring what's underneath. Stablecoins already proved this - most USDT users in emerging markets don't know or care that it's crypto. They just need dollars that work.

🚨BREAKING: Federal Reserve ADDS XRP in New “CRYPTO” Risk Class Proposal 🤯🔥 Federal Reserve just released a new staff paper proposing a NEW “Crypto” Asset Class — AND $XRP is listed, alongside with $BTC & $ETH.🔥 Right now, crypto does NOT have its own category inside the main global risk model banks use to trade derivatives. 👀 So what happens? 🤔 They force assets like $XRP, $BTC, and $ETH into legacy buckets like “commodities” or “FX.” Fed's proposal is to create a NEW DEDICATED “CRYPTO” risk class under ISDA SIMM — split between: • Pegged (stablecoins) • Floating (BTC, ETH, XRP, etc.) This is the exact model banks use. 🚀

Obviously. Being labeled a security for a blockchain company was a death sentence, something everyone was worried about, and ripples battle against the SEC helped shape clarity for the courts by establishing precedence for digital asset classification for everyone else. Now everyone benefits from that ruling. That case is now used for precedence that all future decisions/classifications are made from, including even in Coinbase’s own battle against SEC to argue that again, secondary market sales do not constitute investment contracts.
