Chain Split

متقدمآخر تحديث October 14, 2025

A chain split, also known as a blockchain fork, is a significant event in the world of blockchain and cryptocurrencies. It occurs when there is a disagreement or conflict within a blockchain network's participants regarding a fundamental protocol or rule change.

This conflict leads to the creation of two or more separate chains, each following a different set of rules. This can occur in two main ways: a hard fork or a soft fork.

Chain splits can be contentious and have implications for the entire blockchain ecosystem, including the value of associated cryptocurrencies. Some famous examples include the Bitcoin and Ethereum network splits, resulting in the creation of Bitcoin Cash and Ethereum Classic, respectively.

Resolving chain splits often requires a consensus mechanism, with the community deciding which chain to follow while the others continue as separate, competing networks.
