World Mobile Token (WMTX) is a cryptocurrency designed to power World Mobile's decentralized mobile network. The project aims to provide internet access to the nearly 3 billion people worldwide who are currently unconnected.
WMTX serves as the utility token within this ecosystem, facilitating transactions such as calls, data usage, and other services. Users pay for these services in local currencies, and the network uses this revenue to purchase WMTX from open markets. Node operators and stakers earn WMTX as rewards for processing transactions and maintaining network services.
Originally launched on the Cardano blockchain as WMT, the token is currently migrating to multiple blockchains, including Base, Ethereum, and BNB Chain, to enhance its utility and accessibility. During this migration, the token is rebranded as WMTX.
By leveraging blockchain technology and a sharing economy model, World Mobile aims to offer affordable and sustainable internet connectivity, particularly in underserved regions. This initiative not only facilitates communication but also provides access to essential services like online banking, education, and healthcare, thereby empowering unconnected individuals globally.
