xStocks and Ondo Stocks: Key Differences
Last updated: 09/11/2026 02:44:00
xStocks and Ondo Stocks are separate third-party tokenization offerings that bring economic exposure to publicly traded stocks and exchange-traded funds onchain. “Ondo Stocks” refers to stock and ETF tokens issued under Ondo Global Markets.
xStocks are issued by Backed Assets (JE) Limited. Each xStock is a bearer debt instrument classified as a tracker certificate and is fully collateralized on an asset-by-asset basis by the corresponding stock or ETF held with regulated custodians and brokers. xStocks provide economic exposure but do not confer shareholder voting rights.
Ondo Stocks tokens are issued under Ondo’s Global Markets structure. Ondo states that its global tokens are fully backed and collateralized by the corresponding securities and cash in transit. They are designed as total-return trackers, reflecting price performance and reinvested dividends after applicable withholding taxes.
Neither product should automatically be treated as direct ownership of the referenced company share or ETF. Exact holder rights depend on the specific token and legal structure.
How They Bring Stock and ETF Exposure Onchain
Both providers connect traditional market infrastructure with public blockchains.
At the traditional market layer, the provider or its service partners acquire and hold the relevant stocks or ETF shares. At the issuance layer, a separate legal entity creates tokens under defined product terms. At the blockchain layer, users can hold and transfer those tokens on supported networks.
Minting and redemption connect the token supply with assets held offchain. Eligible direct participants complete the provider’s onboarding process before minting or redeeming. Once issued, tokens may also trade on secondary venues, where prices are influenced by the referenced stock or ETF, available liquidity, market hours, and access to minting and redemption.
Trading availability can differ from issuer minting and redemption schedules. The comparison table below summarizes the providers’ current published schedules. Availability may change and can be interrupted by exceptions, market conditions, or provider pauses.
