Syrup Token (SYRUP) is the governance token for Maple Finance's ecosystem, which focuses on decentralized institutional lending. Launched on November 13, 2024, SYRUP replaced the previous MPL token at a conversion rate of 1 MPL to 100 SYRUP.

By holding and staking SYRUP, you can participate in the platform's governance and share in its growth. Staking SYRUP allows you to earn rewards, with an initial distribution of 5,000,000 SYRUP to stakers in the first 90 days, targeting an approximate 9% annual percentage yield (APY), assuming 25% of the circulating supply is staked.

SYRUP is integral to Maple's decentralized finance (DeFi) services, enabling users to access yields from overcollateralized loans to leading crypto-native institutions. This structure provides a transparent and efficient lending environment within the DeFi sector.

1. Conversion from MPL to SYRUP: If you hold Maple's original token, MPL, you can convert it to SYRUP at a ratio of 1 MPL to 100 SYRUP. This process began on November 13, 2024.

2. Staking SYRUP: By staking your SYRUP tokens, you can earn additional SYRUP as rewards. In the first 90 days after the token launch, 5,000,000 SYRUP will be distributed to stakers. If 25% of the circulating supply is staked, this results in approximately 9% APY.

3. Governance Participation: Holding SYRUP tokens enables you to vote on proposals that shape the future of the Maple and Syrup platforms. Both staked and unstaked SYRUP tokens are eligible for governance participation.

4. Value Accrual: Fees generated from Maple’s and Syrup’s lending operations are used to buy back SYRUP tokens. These tokens are then distributed to stakers, aligning incentives and sharing the platforms' growth with the community.

Maple Finance, the creator of Syrup, was co-founded by Joe Flanagan. The team focuses on decentralized institutional lending. SYRUP was launched on November 13, 2024.

Maple Finance Roadmap Highlights 

1. Early Access and Growth: Syrup opened for early sign-ups with access codes, aiming to build initial liquidity and user engagement. 

2. AMM Liquidity: The focus was on establishing deep liquidity via Automated Market Makers (AMMs), allowing users to swap in and out of pools and enhancing the utility of Syrup LP tokens.3. Distribution and Additional Assets: Plans included launching additional assets like USDT and integrating Syrup LP tokens as collateral, unlocking use cases such as lending, borrowing, and yield splitting.

Syrup Token (SYRUP) serves multiple purposes within the Maple and Syrup ecosystems:

1. Governance Participation: SYRUP acts as the governance token for the Maple DAO, allowing you to vote on proposals that shape the future of both platforms. This includes decisions on token distribution, treasury recapitalization, new product launches, and smart contract upgrades.

2. Staking Rewards: By staking your SYRUP tokens, you can earn additional SYRUP as rewards. In the first 90 days after the token launch, 5,000,000 SYRUP will be distributed to stakers. If 25% of the circulating supply is staked, this results in approximately 9% APY.

3. Trading on Exchanges: You can trade SYRUP tokens on various cryptocurrency exchanges. For example, KuCoin listed SYRUP on November 26, 2024, allowing you to trade it against USDT on their spot market. 

Approximately 1.15 billion SYRUP tokens were minted following the approval of Maple's governance proposal, MIP-010. This conversion allowed MPL holders to exchange 1 MPL for 100 SYRUP, with no dilution for existing holders.  

In line with the agreed token inflation schedule and issuance, the expected supply of SYRUP tokens will be 1,228,740,800 by September 2026. Existing MPL holders can convert their tokens to SYRUP at a ratio of 1 MPL to 100 SYRUP. This process unifies the broader Maple ecosystem and increases token utility.
