Pudgy Penguins, a popular NFT project, has introduced PENGU, its official cryptocurrency. Launched on December 17, 2024, PENGU operates on the Solana blockchain and has a total supply of 88.88 billion tokens. 

PENGU aims to strengthen the connection between the brand and its global fanbase, allowing enthusiasts to participate more actively in the ecosystem. Initially launched on Solana, there are plans to expand PENGU to Ethereum and Abstract, an Ethereum layer-2 scaling network. 

Eligible participants, including holders of specific NFTs and physical Pudgy Toys, have 88 days from the launch date to claim their PENGU tokens. After this period, any unclaimed tokens will be burned, reducing the total supply.

Pudgy Penguins is a collection of 8,888 unique NFTs launched on the Ethereum blockchain in August 2021. In April 2022, entrepreneur Luca Netz acquired the project for 750 ETH (approximately $2.5 million at the time). 

Under Netz's leadership, Pudgy Penguins expanded into physical merchandise, including toys available at major retailers like Walmart and Target. On December 17, 2024, Pudgy Penguins launched PENGU, its official cryptocurrency, on the Solana blockchain. 

The roadmap includes plans to expand PENGU to Ethereum and Abstract, an Ethereum layer-2 scaling network. Additionally, the team aims to grow the brand through ventures into movies, games, and TV, positioning Pudgy Penguins as a prominent character in the crypto market.

PENGU is the official cryptocurrency of the Pudgy Penguins ecosystem. Its primary use cases include governance rights within the community, potential staking opportunities, and facilitating transactions in the Pudgy Penguins marketplace.

The total supply of PENGU is 88.88 billion tokens, distributed as follows:

1. 25.9% allocated to the Pudgy Penguins community, including holders of Pudgy Penguins NFTs, Lil Pudgys, and Pudgy Rods.

2. 24.12% designated for other NFT communities and new "Huddle" members.

3. 17.8% reserved for current and future team members, with a one-year cliff and three-year vesting period.

4. 11.48% retained by the company under similar vesting conditions.

The remaining percentage allocated for liquidity pools, public goods, and professional brand expansion.
