Story Protocol operates as a specialized blockchain for intellectual property (IP). You can register your creative works—like images, songs, or AI training data—on this blockchain. 

Once registered, you set specific terms for how others may use your IP. For example, you might allow others to remix your work but require a share of any commercial revenue they earn. 

These terms are enforced through smart contracts, ensuring automatic tracking and compensation whenever someone uses your IP. This system provides a transparent and efficient way for you to manage and monetize your creations.

Story Protocol was co-founded by Josh Lee and Jason Zhao. They launched the platform in 2023. Their goal was to create a decentralized system for managing intellectual property (IP). 

The team has outlined a roadmap that includes developing tools for creators, expanding partnerships, and enhancing platform features. They also offer the Story Academy, a program to support entrepreneurs building on the platform.

The Story Protocol's native token, $IP, serves multiple purposes within the platform. You use it to pay for transaction fees, ensuring smooth operations. 

By staking $IP tokens, you help secure the network and, in return, earn rewards. Additionally, holding $IP grants you voting rights, allowing you to participate in governance decisions. 

Beyond these functions, you can trade $IP tokens on exchanges like the KuCoin Spot Market starting February 14, 2025, providing liquidity and investment opportunities.

The Story Protocol's native token, $IP, has a total supply of 1 billion tokens. The distribution is as follows:

1. Ecosystem and Community: 38.4%

2. Initial Incentives: 10%

3. Foundation: 10%

4. Early Backers: 21.6%

5. Core Contributors: 20%

Initially, 25% of the tokens are unlocked. The remaining tokens will unlock over 48 months. This structure supports long-term growth and community involvement.
