ChainCatcher report: Cryptocurrency infrastructure provider Zerohash has resubmitted its application for a national trust bank charter to the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), marking its second attempt after the initial application was returned in July. Previously, on July 17, the OCC returned Zerohash’s application citing “insufficient materials.” Zerohash stated that the return was an administrative procedure, permitting it to reapply this month in coordination with the OCC—not a judgment on the substance of the application, nor an impact on the company’s existing operations. The company noted that its initial application covered a broad range of digital assets and trust services, and thus decided to adopt a “phased approach,” focusing first on the national trust banking business that better aligns with its established launch timeline. Zerohash, a Chicago-based cryptocurrency infrastructure platform, provides backend operational support for institutions including E*Trade (a subsidiary of Morgan Stanley), BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, Stripe, Interactive Brokers, and DraftKings, and already holds a state trust bank charter.
