According to MarsBit, on December 5, 2025, social media platform X was fined 120 million euros by the European Union for violating content regulations. The European Commission stated that X violated three provisions of the Digital Services Act and has been given 60 days to provide solutions and 90 days to implement changes. The EU's decision targeted X's blue checkmark verification, lack of ad transparency, and researchers' data access issues. The EU's technology chief said the maximum fine was not the EU's intention, and the amount was appropriate based on the nature of the violations and their impact on EU users.
