Based on Forklog, Ukraine has selected Google's Gemma model as the foundation for developing a sovereign large language model (LLM). The initiative, announced by VEON Group, will use Google Vertex AI infrastructure and involve Kyivstar and the WINWIN AI Center under the Ministry of Digital Transformation. Kyivstar will act as a strategic partner, optimizing the model for the Ukrainian language and training it on carefully selected datasets. The LLM aims to cover all Ukrainian dialects, terminology, and cultural contexts while ensuring secure data storage within the country. The project is expected to power a new generation of AI-based services in both public and private sectors.
