As per CoinTelegraph, Japanese investment company Metaplanet's stock surged over 12% on June 9, 2025, following the announcement of its ambitious plan to acquire 210,000 Bitcoin by the end of 2027. This move would position Metaplanet as the second-largest Bitcoin holder among public companies, trailing only Michael Saylor's Strategy. The company's shares, trading under the ticker 3350T, reached a peak of 1,641 yen ($11.36) during the trading session. Metaplanet aims to raise $5.4 billion to fund this acquisition, significantly increasing its previous target of 21,000 BTC. The firm currently holds 8,888 Bitcoin, following a recent purchase of 1,088 BTC. This strategic decision aligns with a growing trend of companies adding Bitcoin to their balance sheets, as highlighted by a June 3 report from Standard Chartered, which noted that 61 publicly listed firms now hold 3.2% of all Bitcoin in circulation.
