Long-End Treasury Yields and the U.S. Dollar Fall Sharply as BTC Surges Toward 70K
🔍 Core Insights
  • 📊 Market Analysis
    • The U.S. Treasury plans to expand its long-term Treasury buyback program to ease market liquidity pressure, pushing the 30-year Treasury yield down nearly 10 basis points in a single day to around 5.19%, while the 10-year yield fell to around 4.64%. The U.S. Dollar Index also dropped below 99, while spot gold rose more than 4% intraday. All three major U.S. equity indices ended a three-day losing streak, although sector performance remained highly divergent. AI and semiconductor stocks continued to face pressure, while crypto-related equities rallied sharply, with Strategy up around 13%, Coinbase up around 10%, and Circle up around 10%. The crypto market reacted even more strongly, with BTC breaking rapidly out of its $64K–$65K consolidation range, surpassing $68K and briefly approaching $70K. The breakout triggered concentrated short covering, with more than $1 billion in short positions liquidated within one hour, further amplifying the rally. BTC has now broken out of its previous consolidation around $64K. If it can hold above $68K–$69K, the market is likely to continue testing the $70K psychological level and potentially higher; if BTC quickly falls back below $68K after the surge, attention should shift to potential profit-taking as the short squeeze fades.
    • BTC: $69,339.1 (+7.13%); ETH: $2,253.27 (+17.49%); NASDAQ: 26,331.09 (+0.16%); S&P 500: 7,707.98 (+0.21%); Fear & Greed Index: 62 (previous: 46) (Data as of: 2026-08-20 00:00 UTC)
  • 🧠 Market Insight
    • The sharp decline in long-end Treasury yields and the U.S. dollar opened room for a broader crypto rebound, while BTC’s break above $65K triggered large-scale short covering and pushed prices rapidly toward $70K. After the U.S. Treasury expanded its liquidity-support buybacks for long-term government bonds, the 30-year Treasury yield fell sharply and the dollar weakened, easing the funding pressure that had previously weighed on risk assets. At the same time, the rebound began to spread from BTC into higher-beta assets. ETH surged above $2,300, gaining more than 20% over 24 hours and recording its largest single-day increase since March; SOL rose more than 11% to above $87, while total crypto market capitalization climbed to around $2.4 trillion. ETH significantly outperformed BTC, while L1 assets such as SOL and AVAX, L2 tokens such as ARB, DeFi assets including AAVE, and Meme tokens including TRUMP and DOGE all posted notable gains. HYPE and other tokens with independent catalysts saw even stronger moves, indicating a clear short-term recovery in market risk appetite.
Macro Economy
  • The U.S. Treasury will expand its long-term Treasury buyback program, increasing the size from $2 billion to $4 billion per operation and covering maturities ranging from 10 to 30 years. Treasury yields fell in response, with the 10-year yield at 4.6486% and the 30-year yield at 5.1942%.
  • U.S.-Iran tensions: More than 80% of vessels currently passing through the Strait of Hormuz are using the Oman-side shipping lane, which is authorized by the United Nations. Trump announced what he described as the “most severe economic action ever taken” against Iran, warning that countries helping Iran evade sanctions would face major economic consequences, while saying negotiations with Iran could resume at an appropriate time. Iran denied that direct talks with the U.S. were underway. The UAE also suspended all economic and trade ties with Iran after accusing Tehran of launching ballistic missiles at its territory.
  • The Federal Reserve’s July meeting minutes showed that most participants supported keeping interest rates unchanged, while several favored a rate increase. Officials indicated that further tightening could be necessary if inflation fails to decline.
Industry Events
  • Trump attended a White House meeting with crypto industry leaders, meeting the SEC and CFTC chairs as well as executives from both crypto and traditional financial institutions, and urged Congress to advance the CLARITY Act; the bill is set to face a key Senate vote on September 15.
  • Kalshi submitted a filing to the CFTC for COPPERPERP, a copper perpetual contract using Pyth spot copper pricing, cash settlement, and no fixed expiration date.
  • The U.S. OCC said it will continue advancing implementation of the GENIUS Act stablecoin framework and plans to finalize rules for payment stablecoins in November, ahead of the broader regulatory framework taking effect in 2027.
  • GnosisDAO, an Ethereum DeFi infrastructure organization, approved GIP-153, under which Gnosis Chain will gradually transition from an independent L1 toward the Ethereum Economic Zone, using Ethereum settlement and shared security to reduce the security and subsidy burden of maintaining an independent validator set.
  • Grayscale filed a fourth amendment to the registration statement for the Grayscale Zcash Trust (ZEC) with the U.S. SEC, seeking to list the trust on NYSE Arca.
  • The KITE token was hit by a hacker attack, prompting the foundation to initiate a 1:1 contract migration.
Alpha Project Performance
  • CACAO: Maya Protocol suffered an exploit involving a combination of six software vulnerabilities, resulting in the direct theft of approximately $1.7 million in BTC and other assets and forcing the protocol to halt network operations. The exploit and subsequent arbitrage caused the total value of MAYAChain liquidity pools to fall by approximately $10.9 million, while CACAO plunged nearly 89% at one point.
  • TRX: TRON plans to advance TVM compatibility parameter proposals on August 25, introducing Prague and Osaka upgrade features. The functionality has already been tested on the Nile testnet, while TRX rose a modest 0.4% over 24 hours.
  • SOL: Solana activated its first mainnet slot-time reduction, lowering slot time from around 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds starting from Epoch 1020, with a longer-term roadmap targeting a gradual reduction toward 200 milliseconds. SOL gained more than 10% over 24 hours.
  • TRUMP: Trump’s supportive policy statements, combined with the broader crypto market rally, revived interest in Trump-themed Meme narratives, pushing TRUMP up approximately 25% over 24 hours.
  • HYPE: Trump said during the White House crypto industry meeting that the CFTC chairman is working to bring Hyperliquid into the U.S. under a compliant framework. Combined with exchange integration of Hyperliquid’s perpetual trading infrastructure, the catalyst drove trading volume up roughly 3.5x and pushed HYPE up around 19% intraday.
  • PONS: Pons disclosed that cumulative trading volume on Robinhood Chain exceeded $2.5 billion within its first month of launch, while ongoing buybacks and burns have removed more than 28% of total supply. The token gained nearly 50% intraday.
