Nillion is a decentralized network that allows you to store and process sensitive data securely, similar to how blockchains decentralize transactions. It enables private computation, meaning you can work with encrypted data without exposing it. 

This is particularly useful for applications like personalized AI, private healthcare analytics, and secure messaging. The network uses nodes to form clusters that handle data processing and storage, ensuring your information remains confidential. 

NIL is the native utility token of the Nillion Network. You can use NIL tokens to pay for services within the network, participate in governance, and incentivize network participants.

Nillion operates through a multi-layered system to ensure secure and private data processing:

1. Processing Layer: Nodes equipped with Nillion's Node Deployment Kit (NDK) form clusters. These clusters collaboratively process your data securely.

2. Coordination Layer: This blockchain-based environment manages payments, requests, and resource coordination within the network.

3. Connectivity Layer: It enables the network to interface with external systems and blockchains, expanding access to Nillion's computing and storage capabilities.

Within each node, several components work together:

> Cryptographic Preprocessor: Generates blinding factors to mask your data, ensuring privacy.

> Secure Resource Vault: Stores these blinding factors securely, distributing trust across the network in a quantum-safe manner.

> Coordination Interface: Manages information flow and payments through the Coordination Layer.

> Public Particle Database: Holds masked data particles, allowing flexible and secure storage.

> Program Library: Provides access to a collection of user-generated programs for data processing.

> Authentication and Access Control Service: Manages network authentication and data access collaboratively.

By integrating these layers and components, Nillion enables you to process and store sensitive data securely and privately.

Nillion was founded by a team of experienced professionals:

> Conrad Whelan: Founding Engineer of Uber.

> Andrew Masanto: Founding CMO of Hedera Hashgraph.

> Slava Rubin: Founder of Indiegogo.

> Lindsay Danas Cohen: Former Associate General Counsel at Coinbase.

The company began its development phase around September 2022. Over the next 15 months, the team focused on building the core infrastructure and tools for the Nillion Network. By November 2023, they completed Phase I, which involved internal testing and collaboration with external builders. They planned to launch a public testnet in 2024.

In June 2024, Nillion announced a Community Round, allowing public participation at the same valuation as their Series A token sale. This initiative aimed to include the community alongside venture capitalists.

By December 2024, Nillion introduced the Nillion Nucleus program to support developers building on their network. This program offers assistance in areas like market research, business development, fundraising, and technical guidance.

As of February 20, 2025, the registration period for Nillion's (NIL) airdrop has concluded. Eligible participants who registered before the February 3, 2025, deadline will receive their NIL tokens in their claim wallets following the Alpha Mainnet launch.
