Klaytn is an EVM Layer-1 blockchain designed to support scalable metaverse and Web3 projects created by South Korean company Kakao. The metaverse blockchain, as it calls itself, is an open-source, public blockchain built as the fundamental trust layer for the metaverse.

KLAY is the native token of the Klaytn protocol and is used to pay transaction fees during the creation or execution of smart contracts or when users transfer payments on the Klaytn network. It also serves as an incentive token, a reward for network participants who contribute resources to keep the blockchain operational.

The Klaytn blockchain aims to offer high throughput of up to 4,000 TPS (transactions per second) and a transaction finality time of one second to generate new blocks. In addition, Klaytn offers high levels of scalability through support for interoperability with other blockchain ecosystems and Klalytn Layer-2 chains.

Klaytn consists of three logical subnetworks with different roles and purposes working together:

Core Cell Network (CCN)

The CCN consists of Core Cells (CCs) responsible for validating and executing network transactions and creating new blocks on the network. The transactions are submitted by Endpoint Nodes (ENs).

Endpoint Node Network (ENN)

The ENN is made up of ENs that create transactions. In addition, Endpoint Nodes handle RPC API requests and process data requests from service chains on the Klaytn ecosystem.

Service Chain Network (SCN)

SCNs are auxiliary blockchains to the Klaytn network independently operated by dApps. They connect to the main network through ENs.

The mainnet of Klaytn utilizes a combination of the CCN and ENN and is called Cypress. Cypress runs decentralized applications on it. dApps can also run their own Service Chains that give them a dedicated execution environment with high TPS and customization of network policies.

The KLAY token is the native digital asset of the Klaytn ecosystem. It serves the following purposes:

Pay Transaction Fees

Users who utilize the Klaytn blockchain to transfer payments pay transaction fees in KLAY tokens. In addition, smart contracts also use KLAY to pay fees when they are created or executed within the network.

Reward Nodes

Consensus nodes (CNs) and resource nodes (RNs) receive rewards in KLAY crypto for their contributions. CNs are responsible for validating transactions and creating new blocks in the network. RNs provide decentralized computing resources to the blockchain and are paid for their efforts using KLAY coins.

Governance Token

Klaytn 2.0, or the updated version of the Klaytn blockchain, will use a stake-based system, letting KLAY holders stake their tokens to participate in governance to offer higher reliability and data consistency. The ‘Klaytn Governance Council will expand to include more KLAY holders, implementing a greater level of decentralization and eventually adopting a DAO model to decide on the future upgrades via Klaytn improvement proposals and development of the ecosystem.

CCNは、ネットワークトランザクションの検証と実行、ネットワーク上に新しいブロックを作成する役割を担うコア・セル（CC）で構成されています。トランザクションは、エンドポイント・ノード（EN）によって送信されます。

エンドポイント・ノード・ネットワーク (Endpoint Node Network、ENN)
